UCSF Medical Center VPN downloads: Mac OS Instructions

Installation

  1. Download the installer to your desktop. (If you have an Intel Mac use this version.)
  2. Double-click the downloaded-software icon to mount the installer software:

  3. Double-click the VPN client icon that appears on your desktop:

  4. In the list of folder contents that opens, double-click the Cisco VPN Client.mpkg icon to launch the installer:

  5. The installer will launch. The Intro screen lets you know you need Mac OSX 10.1.5 or later.

    Click "Continue."

  6. Click "Continue" on the License screen and "Agree" on the drop-down window that appears.

  7. Select the hard drive onto which you'll install the VPN on the Destination screen:

  8. Click the "Install" button on the Installation Type page.

  9. The installer will cycle through then display the Finish Up page:

    Click "Close."

Configuration and Connection

  1. Double-click the application icon in your Applications folder:

  2. You'll see the "New Connection" screen:

  3. Fill it out so that it looks like this:

    The group-authentication password is in the confirmation email you received when requesting an account.

  4. Click on the Transport tab and make sure the window looks like this:

    (If you have trouble connecting, try checking the "IPSec over TCP" button.)

  5. Click "Save." This will bring up the Connection window:

    To connect to the VPN, double-click the UCSF connection entry or, with that entry highlighted, click on the "Connect" icon in the upper left-hand corner of the window.

  6. If all goes well, you will be challenged for your UCSF network username and password:

    Enter these, and click "OK."

  7. Read the disclaimer

    and click "Continue."

  8. You're connected when you see this screen:
